NY Times is running a interesting report on secret Google lab, Google X, working on wildest technological problems. It reports at Google X is working on secret projects that could sound like a sci-fi movie. According the report, Google X is operating from Google’s headquarters and a robotics labs at secret location. It appears that the central theme connecting various Google X projects is AI and Machine Learning.
Google to manufacture Driver-less Cars?
Wildest projects Google X is working on include “space elevators” and myriad of robots that can assist us in boring tasks. Google’s driver-less cars are one of the products from the Google X lab. The report adds that Google is considering to manufacture these driver-less cars in US soon.
The NY Times report also gives details on key personnels involved in Google X lab. Google’s co-founder Sergey Brin is deeply involved and Google X seems to be his pet project. The Key researchers involved in Google X include two Stanford University professors Sebastian Thrun and Andre Ng. Sebastian Thrun is well known for his work on Google’s Driver-less cars. Andrew Ng is famous for his contributions to AI and Machine Learning.
Andre Ng’s ML classes are well known among students interested in learning ML and he is part of Stanford’s recent experiment on distributed learning through web. Johnny Chung Lee, a PhD from CMU is a human computer interaction specialist working on “all things remotely”.
