Dell Terminates Streak 5 Android Tablet

Dell quitely stopped selling its 5 inch Android tablet Streak 5.  Dell launched Streak 5 in last August, as its first attempt at tablet to take on Apple iPad. Announcing the”end of life” for Dell Streak 5, Dell said “Good Bye, Streak 5. It’s been a great ride.” in its website with the following picture.

At hind sight everything about Streak 5 seemed wrong from the very beginning. Dell Streak was too small for a tablet and too big for a smartphone. And Dell Streak 5′s pricing was nothing much to said of. Launched to compete with iPad, it costed much more than an iPad, but without really offering  anything for its cost. Dell Streak 5 costed $300 with two year AT&T contract and $550 with no contract.

Not so surprisingly, Streak 5 was not also received well by the tech reviewers. AllThingsD’s Walt Mossberg called Dell Streak 5 as a “Tweener device” and called out as a “design compromise”.
At these times, Apple CEO Steve Jobs looks like a sage as he concluded that small touch tablets will be “Dead on Arrival” at a call during Apple’s financial report last year.
