Amazon UK announced that it is acquiring UK’s top online bookstore “The Book Depository”. The Book depository is UK’s largest online bookseller and founded in 2004 by Andrew Crawford. It is known for offering free shipping service to over 100 international locations and its ability to dispatch an order within 48 hours. The Book Depository focuses on the long tail by making available as many books as possible for sale. In it website, The Book Depository says that
we focus on selling ‘less of more’ rather than ‘more of less’, differentiating ourselves from other retailers who increasingly focus on bestsellers.
Making the announcement of the acquisition, Greg Greeley, Amazon’s Vice President of European Retail said
Customers in more than 100 countries enjoy The Book Depository’s vast selection, convenient delivery and free shipping. The Book Depository is very focused on serving its customers around the world, and we look forward to welcoming them to the Amazon family.
Andrew Crawford, Founder, The Book Depository said
With the support of Amazon, we look forward to continuing our growth and providing an ever-improving service for readers globally.
