Nielsen company analyzing the US smartphone market found that Google’s Android has become the most wanted smartphone operating system. In a survey for January 2011 – March 2011, Nielsen found that 31% of consumers who are planning to get a new smartphone want a Android device. And 30% want iOS device and 11% want a RIM Blackberry device. Almost 20% of consumers are unsure of what OS to choose when they buy their next smartphone.
The numbers from the Nielsen report is interesting as it shows how the smartphone market landscape is changing very quickly. In a similar survey conducted on U.S. mobile consumers by Nielsen during July-September 2010, Nielsen found that 33% of consumers wanted an Apple iPhone, 26% wanted a Android device, and 13% wanted a RIM Blackberry.

50% of Recent Smartphone Buyers Chose Android
Nielsen also found that the desire to buy Android is evident in a survey conducted in March 2011. Niesen said among the people who bought a smartphone in the last six months, 50% chose a Android device and 25% bought Apple iPhone.

Nielsen report also updated the market share of US smartphone OS. Nielsen found that as March 2011, 37% of smartphone customers have an Android smartphone, 27% has Apple iPhone, 22% has RIM Blackberry, and 10% has Windows Phone.
