Android videochat buddylist 180x300 Android Gets Video ChatGoogle announced that it is launching Google Talk with video and voice chat for Android smartphones. The video chat capability missing till now on Android phones allows one to video chat with your friends right from your Android smartphone. Your friends can be either on a compatible Android phone, tablet, of Gmail with Google Talk on a computer. One can make this video chat calls using 3G/4G (if your carrier allows) or from Wi-Fi network.

Making video or text chat from Android is easy. Just like GTalk on your computer, you will see green video icon if your friend is available for video chat. With a single touch you can initiate the video chat. While video chatting you can also do text chat without going away from the video chat. The text chats will be displayed over the video. If you need to do something else and go away from the video, the video pauses automatically but keeping the voice on till you come back to video chat.

Google is gradually rolling out the Google Talk with video and voice chat to Nexus S devices in the next few weeks. It will be part of the Android 2.3.4 over-the-air update. And Google will roll out this to other Android 2.3+ devices in the future.
