Earlier this week Motorola announced that Motorola Xoom with Wi-Fi will be available for purchase starting from Sunday, March 27. Launching the Wi-Fi edition of Xoom, Motorola announced that the Xoom Wi-Fi will be available from a variety of places including, Amazon.com, Best Buy, Costco, RadioShack, Sam’s Club (select locations), Staples and Walmart. The Xoom Wi-Fi model is priced to compete with Apple iPad for $599, the same price as Apple iPad’s 32 GB Wi-Fi model.
Motorola’s Xoom with 3G running on Adroid 3.0 (Honeycomb) was the only viable competitor to Apple’s iPad and the new iPad 2. Although Motorola Xoom was received with a good review, it was pricey. Even Steve Jobs took a dig at Motorola Xoom for offering just a single tablet model.
Announcing the availability of Xoom Wi-Fi model, Dan Papalia, vice president of retail sales for Motorola Mobility, said
MOTOROLA XOOM is a truly innovative tablet – its design, coupled with being the first tablet to have Android 3.0, results in a user experience that is one-of-a-kind. We are now continuing to expand the choices available to consumers with the MOTOROLA XOOM Wi-Fi to be available soon from numerous leading retailers in the United States.
