AT&T announced that its first 4G smartphone, the HTC Inspire 4G will be available for customers starting from February 13, just three days after Apple’s iPhone 4 from Verizon. HTC Inspire 4G will cost $99.99 after a two-year contract and will be available from online and AT&T retail stores. And HTC Inspire 4G requires a minimum data plan starting at $15 per month.
HTC Inspire 4G’s Tech Specs
Earlier in January, AT&T announced that it will be offering two 4G smartphones in the first quarter of 2011 and about 20 4G devices by the year 2011. The HTC Inspire 4G runs on Android 2.2 platform and powered by 1GHz processor. Inspire 4G has 4.3-inch super LCD display and also features an 8-megapixel camera with HD video recording.
HTC Inspire comes with 4 GB internal memory and 8 GB of microSD card storage. Its microSD card slot can support microsSD cards up to 32GB. It has a 1230 mAh battery with talk time up to 6 hours and stand by time up to 15.5 days. The HTC Inspire 4G will also be the first smartphone to have AT&T Mobile Hotspot service built into the smartphone. The mobile hotspot service allows users to connect additional Wi-Fi-enabled devices.
AT&T’s 4G Network
AT&T’s 4G network is powered by HSPA+ technology for now and AT&T has plans of LTE network for later. AT&T claims that AT&T’s HSPA+ network can offer speeds up to 4x faster than AT&T’s already fast mobile broadband speeds, i.e. speeds up to approximately 6 Mbps. AT&T’s upcoming LTE can offer even faster speeds.
