One of the talks of the holiday season in the tech circle is Yahoo’s plan to lay off its employees just before Christmas. Yahoo was widely rumored to be laying of its 5% of 14,100 employees. Earlier today, tweets and mails started coming from Yahoo employees about the layoffs.
Finally Yahoo! has responded to TechCrunch and said Yahoo is laying off its employees today. TechCrunch also reported that Yahoo is laying off about 560 employees, approximately 4% of its global workforce. Here’s Yahoo’s response to TechCrunch
Today’s personnel changes are part of our ongoing strategy to best position Yahoo! for revenue growth and margin expansion and to support our strategy to deliver differentiated products to the marketplace. We’ll continue to hire on a global basis to support our key priorities.
Yahoo! is grateful for the important contributions made by the employees affected by this reduction. We are offering severance packages and outplacement services to these employees.
