Google announced Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarships in US for 2011. Google started awarding Anita Borg scholorship from 2004 in honor of US computer scientist Anita Borg, who devoted her life to revolutionize “the way we think about technology and dismantling barriers that keep women and minorities from entering computing and technology fields.”
Google Anita Borg Scholarships are awarded to women undergraduate and graduate students, who share Anita Borg’s passion for technology. The scholarship recipient will receive a $10,000 award for the 2011-2012 academic year. In addition, all scholarship recipients and finalists will be invited to attend the Annual Google Scholars’ Retreat at Googleplex in Mountain View, California. The deadline to apply for the 2011 Anita Borg Memorial scholarship in US and Canada is Tuesday, February 1, 2011.
Here is the eligibility criteria and who can apply for Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship.
- be a female student entering her senior year of undergraduate study or be enrolled in a graduate program in the 2011-2012 academic year at a university in the United States;
- be enrolled in Computer Science or Computer Engineering program, or a closely related technical field as a full-time student for the 2011-2012 academic year;
- maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or 4.5 on a 5.0 scale or equivalent in your current program.
Google is also offering the Anita Borg scholarship for first years, where the applicants are high school seniors intending to join a college in a computer science related program.
