Last week, YouTube announced that one can enjoy YouTube videos in four new languages: Croatian, Filipino, Serbian and Slovak. YouTube’s philosophy is “Video is universal” and to serve the world communities better YouTube has to provide localized YouTube experience.
In an effort to reach worldwide audience, YouTube started speaking different languages in 2007 with YouTube local pages, content and country specific rankings. With the addition of support in four new languages, YouTube now supports 28 world languages. When compared to the beginning of 2010, the number languages YouTube can support has increased about 50%. In addition to this, YouTube users can enjoy automated captions on a video in over 50 languages.
In its blog YouTube said its goal is to offer YouTube experience in 40 languages by the end of this year. That is doubling the language support with in a year. YouTube said
With each new rollout, we hope to make YouTube a bit more accessible to more people, regardless of where in the world they might live.
