Verizon announced that Motorola Droid 2 will be available for pre- sale starting from tomorrow August 11 online. Droid 2 will be available at Verizon wireless stores starting from August 12. The launch of Droid 2 and its pricing were leaked even before Verizon announced it.
Droid 2 is priced at $199.99 after $100 main-in rebate with a new two year contract and an eligible voice and data plan. The optional 3G mobile hotspot feature costs $20 per month and the hotspot can support up to five compatible Wi-Fi devices. Current Verizon Wireless customers whose contracts end by December 31, 2010, can upgrade to any smartphone, including DROID 2, without penalty.
Droid 2′s Tech Specifications
The Android smartphone Droid 2 will have the latest Android 2.2 and its top features include an enhanced QWERTY keyboard, 3G Mobile HotSpot capabilities, and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for access to the full web.
Droid 2 weighs 169 grams with 3.7 inches display and resolution of 480×854. Droid 2 has 5MP camera with dual LED flash light. Droid 2 has 1390 mAh Li Ion battery and boasts of up to 575 min. usage time and standby time up to 315 hours. Droid 2 has 8 GB on board and comes with 8 GB microSD pre-installed in it. The removable memory can support up to 32 GB microSD.

R2-D2 DROID 2
Verizon also announced that it will offer a limited-edition R2-D2 version of Droid 2 to honor the Droid from Star-Wars. The R2-D2 Droid 2 will be available only online in September. The R2 D2 version will feature exclusive Star Wars content and look like the Droid from Star Wars

I think it’s refreshing when companies release phones in colors other than black or silver. I’d buy this if I wasn’t so hopelessly reliant on the look and feel of Sense UI.
