Google Maps for Mobile Hits 100 Million Users Per Month

Google announced in its blog that Google Maps for Mobile has hit 100 million users per month. Google launched Google Maps for Mobile  in 2005 with the goal to replace the paper maps with the mobile phone.

Over the five years Google Maps for Mobile evolved by adding new new features like,  My Location, Public Transit, Search by Voice, Lattitude,  Navigation, and Places.  Google said now more than 100 million users per month use Google Maps for mobile “to get from point A to point B, find nearby places, and more”.

Showing the history and the evolution of Google Maps for mobile, Vic Gundotra said “this is just the start of how Google Maps for mobile will continue to evolve and let you explore the world right from your phone.”

It is interesting to note that Google came up with Google Maps for Mobile on the same time as Facebook announced Facebook Places. It is all the more interesting that none other than the Vic Gundotra wrote the blog and has something to say about Google Place Pages.
