Google introduced a new feature, an intelligent rescheduler, to Google Calender Labs. Most of us would have experienced the frustration of scheduling/rescheduling an event. Often we exchange dozen emails and still end up with no convenient time for everyone. Given the constraints, finding the right schedule is a classic computer science problem around for awhile.
Google used some of the strategies from searching the web to the scheduling problem and launched a new gadget called Smart Rescheduler, in Google Calendar Labs. In the blog, Google says
Just like Google search ranks the web, our scheduling search algorithm returns a ranked set of the best candidate dates and times.
Smart scheduler comes up with the most relevant meeting times,
based on specified criteria like attendees, schedule complexity, conference rooms, and time zones.
To get started, go to Google Calender Labs and enable Smart Rescheduler. Once it is enabled, choose an even that you want to reschedule and click “Find a new time…” in the Smart Rescheduler Gadget. It will automatically (Yes, no human intervention) present you a ranked list of possible options. Smart Rescheduler finds the conflicts by analyzing other participant’s schedules and suggests you the best possible meeting timings. It even suggest you a conference room close by. Google describes it as “It’s like magic”.
Obviously, to benefit from Google Rescheduler all participants should be using Google Calendar. Ideal for people who have gone Google. No need to be disheartened if all are not using Google Calender, one can use web based scheduler like doodle to schedule.
