Apple: Under Age Employees Made iPhone, iPod, and Mac
Apple’s 2010 progress report on their Supplier Responsibility details the audit and corrective action programs. It reveals that the three facilities had employed 15 year old kids in the countries where the legal age to work is 16 years. It has found that the 11 under-aged employees were hired previously and are no longer under aged or working now. After finding these violations Apple has put some measures to prevent under-aged employees.
In addition to under-age employee violations, the audit also revealed violations involving excessive recruitment fees, non-certified vendors for hazardous waste disposal, and falsified records given during the audit.
